Making Room: An Intentional Pause for Ministry Leaders
Week Seven: Making Room to Let Your Light Shine
DOWNLOAD A PRINTABLE OF WEEK SEVEN
Silence
Be still and attentive to God’s presence within and all around you
Matthew 5:14-16
[Jesus said,] “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven."
Meditation
Close your eyes. Breathe deeply of God’s Spirit and grace.
Many of us were trained from a young age to not take up too much space, to be humble, and to discount our own abilities. While ministry is certainly not for our own glory, denying or refusing to claim our gifts is not an act of humility. It is, instead, a missed opportunity to participate in the healing of the world and so to glorify God.
Similarly, when we spend too much time on the tasks of ministry that need to be done but don't feed our souls, we put our light at risk. We risk snuffing our God-given light because it doesn't have the room it needs to shine--room to move and breathe, to dance and create.
We need your light.
The Church needs your light. Let it shine!
Reflection
+ When have you been tempted to not take up too much space or to discount your own abilities?
+ What gifts and passions do you most enjoy using to glorify God? Which gifts and passions are you most hesitant to claim?
+ Whose life might you impact for the good if you make more room to "let your light shine"?
Silence
Breathe deeply of God’s Spirit and grace.
A Prayer for You as a Ministry Leader
Hold your hands or arms in a posture of receiving.
Gracious Lord Jesus, pour out your Spirit on your servant, (name). They are/I am your beloved. You have created them/me with gifts and passions that this hurting and hungering world needs. Enliven them/me with your Spirit to let their/my light shine brightly and illuminate this world with your hope. Amen.
Blessing
In darkness and in light, you are held, you are loved, you are enough. Amen.
